My recent Julep Maven order came for the month of September and I got a beautiful red polish and a gray polish that dries to a satin finish. I was contemplating what to do, and haven’t used my striping tape in a while. So I decided to do a tipped red polish nail design.
Now, I am not the hugest fan of red nail polish. It’s loud, obnoxious, and really in your face. If you are that kind of person, perfect, but I am not. I love dark colors and sometimes the occasional “loud” color. To tame this design down, I hope you notice that I the red has a matte finish. I used Sally Hansen’s “Big Matte Top Coat” to accomplish the matte finish. I did this prior to tipping my nails.
Then I took striping tape and cut half in sections of it. I placed these sections at a diagonal on the tips of the red nail. I painted alternate nails in the Julep gray color and an Ulta brand gold. Immediately after painting each nail, I removed the striping tape. If you don’t do this quick enough the polish will dry and the tape will leave tacky edges to the polish.
As with all my designs, I love those designs that are universal for all color schemes. You can do red, blue, pink, or even white with any shade on top. You can make this design your own, or make it special for a holiday (red and green or orange and black)! Enjoy!
